UPDATE: Final Kameeldrift murder suspect identified

The police reveal the identity of suspect in the murder of a woman two years ago.

The police have revealed the identity of a third suspect in the murder of a Kameeldrift woman more than two years ago.

Kameeldrift police believed Andrew Thabo was among the three men who burst into Riekie Steenberg’s smallholding home in Leeufontein, Kameeldrift East in 2016 and shot the 50-year-old dead.

Thabo’s alleged accomplices Dolfie Sambok and Karabo Semake were arrested last year and appeared in the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday.

The police confirmed a warrant of arrest for Thabo, who is believed to be hiding in his hometown of Rustenburg, was issued.

Steenberg’s husband Jurie told the police that he and his wife were sleeping in their bedroom where they were surprised by three assailants.

He said one of the men hit him with an object on the head.

“I shouted at my wife to shoot the attackers, as she was closest to my gun on the bedside table.”

He said one of the attackers then fatally shot Steenberg before she could reach the gun.

Sambok and Semake will be back in court on Monday.

They remain in police custody.
