Several stolen security beams were recovered in Olievenhoutbosch Friday night after a chase between private security officials and suspected thieves.
The incident occurred just before midnight on Friday evening.
No arrests could be made.
One of the private security companies, Monitor Net, observed a suspicious white Toyota Yaris in Mulder’s Mile in Eldoraigne.
“Our reaction team responded and gave chase, after which the vehicle was stopped in Olievenhoutbosch,” said Monitor Net spokesperson JP le Roux.
The suspects exited the vehicle and fled.
“The vehicle was filled with 15 security beams, which we suspect had been stolen,” said Le Roux.
He added that the theft of these beams and equipment had been a problem in the area, especially in Wierdapark and Eldoraigne.
“We are working hard to stop these kinds of crimes and we have received reports that there has been fewer crimes of these nature recently,” said Le Roux.
Le Roux explains that the Takex 180 beam is very popular due to its high value and it is usually resold.
“This is why it is always important that home owners insure they are buying beams from a registered supplier,” said Le Roux.
Police were not available to comment.
