VIDEO: New Centurion licensing system to end long queues, corruption

Visitors to the testing and licensing centres were spending between four and six hours in line.

A new online booking system promises to make long queues and corruption a thing of the past at the Centurion licensing centre.

Launched by transport minister Blade Nzimande and Gauteng roads and transport MEC Ismail Vadi on Thursday, the system allows residents to book their learner’s and driver’s tests as well as renew their driver’s licences.

Nzimande said the applicant would be able to choose the date, time and location of their test on the system.

He said this would alleviate the long queues as those who had booked would join a separate and quicker line.

Nzimande said it was hoped this would eliminate bribery for preferential treatment and the need to hire someone to stand in the queue for customers.

Vadi said visitors to the testing and licensing centres were spending between four and six hours in the queue.

“We have been instructed by the Gauteng premier to halve this waiting time,” said Vadi.

He said the system would be available at all centres in Pretoria and in the coming weeks then neighbouring Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni municipalities.
