Hijacked courier vehicle recovered in The Reeds

The hijacked vehicle was found abandoned only a few blocks from the original crime.

Swift action by the Wierdabrug Sector 2 CPF led to the recovery of a courier vehicle in The Reeds on the very same day it was hijacked.

The courier vehicle had been hijacked at gunpoint in Craven Street on Friday.

The hijacking is said to have occurred around 13:00.

Hijackers fled the scene with a white Nissan NP200 bakkie.

Sector 2 chairperson Lance Ferreira-Netto said Wierdabrug police were notified.

“Responding CPF members drove past an abandoned white NP200 bakkie only a few blocks away from the hijacking scene,” said Ferreira-Netto.

“The hijackers were alas nowhere to be seen.”

Police were notified and the scene was cordoned off.

Private security companies Monitor Net and Copwatch also responded, according to Ferreira-Netto.

“Luckily the vehicle was fitted with a reputable tracking device which helped in its successful recovery.”

Another courier vehicle, which was hijacked in Midrand earlier the week, was recovered in Mnandi Street in the Centurion area.

Le Roux said the vehicle had also apparently been abandoned shortly after it was hijacked.
