A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he failed to stop at a roadblock on the R55 near Erasmia.
The arrest was made just after 14:00.
This resulted in a high-speed chase with Gauteng traffic police, according to police spokesperson Constable Simon Chokoe.
The chase soon ended after the driver apparently struck the barrier in the middle of the road.
“The driver of the white Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI was cornered by police and arrested immediately,” he said.
The youngster is being charged with reckless and negligent driving.
“He will be released into the custody of his parents pending a court appearance later this week.”
Chokoe did not confirm reports that the youngster was driving 168 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.
