Power being restored in the west

Residents should immediately report any power outages if the power is not back after scheduled load shedding.

A “handful” of residents from the west of Pretoria have been without power since 01:00 on Wednesday, following cable theft at a substation.

Local ward councillor Elma Nel said the cables were stolen at the Hercules substation.

“Luckily, this only affected a handful of residents,” she said.

Nel said municipal teams were currently at the substation to replace the stolen cables.

She said load shedding was also currently inflicting damage to the metro’s electricity lines.

“The moment power is restored all that volume of electricity returns through the lines and they as well as the transformers get damaged,” she said.

She said residents should immediately report any power outages if the power is not back after scheduled load shedding.
