A total of 58 people were arrested over the long weekend of June 16, after the police increased their visibility at the Ga-Rankuwa complex.
Ga-Rankuwa police spokesperson, Mathews Nkoadi, said patrols and raids were undertaken.
He said the arrests were for armed robbery, common assault, and assault with the intent to cause bodily harm, business burglary, theft, dealing in drugs, possession of unlicensed firearms, fraud, hijackings, drunk driving, possession of suspected stolen goods, possession of dagga and other illegal goods.
Nkoadi said other suspects were illegal immigrants.
“All suspects arrested will appear in the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court soon, while illegal immigrants will be deported by home affairs,” said Nkoadi.
“Some of the suspects who committed minor crimes are out on bail while others are still in custody,” he added.
Nkoadi said the crime prevention operation takes place weekly.
