A man was arrested by Pretoria Moot police after a hijacked vehicle and stolen firearms were recovered following a high-speed chase.
The arrest was made on Wednesday around 12:40 after police had received information about a suspicious vehicle with three occupants, said police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.
“Our officers located the suspicious vehicle with three suspects and a chase ensued during which the suspects drove into on-coming traffic in Steve Biko Road.”
Breedt said the vehicle was chased until a dead-end in the road in front of a local business in Ella Street.
“The suspects jumped out of the vehicle, fled the scene on foot and jumped over a business’ back wall bordering Johan Heyns Drive,” he said.
“Police immediately issued a look-out for the suspects and an auto dealer contacted us with information regarding an injured person looking for assistance.

“The person fitted the description of one of the suspects and a police vehicle in the area responded and arrested the man.”
Breedt said the police confiscated three 9mm pistols and ammunition with serial numbers removed and the Toyota Fortuner used during the chase.
“The vehicle was hijacked earlier this month in Hillbrow,” he said.
He said the 36-year-old man from Tembisa would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Acting Moot police station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Marius Claassens commended the officers for their good work and expressed appreciation for the involvement of the community.
