The police over the weekend focused on drug-trafficking and related crimes following a public outcry.
76 suspects were among the almost 400 arrested for various offences across the capital.
393 arrests were made in total, according to police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.
“The highest of these were for drug-related offences,” Weilbach said.
“Drugs have a devastating effect on the community and can cause the user to resort to other crimes.
“Police will continue to enhance efforts to target drugs and the harm they inflict.”
The police also arrested 19 people for liquor-related offences such as driving under the influence of alcohol and drinking in public.
“Criminals prey on people when they seem vulnerable and under the influence of alcohol,” Weilbach said.
She said liquor outlets were inspected on a regular basis and weekly operations were conducted to ensure that they comply.
“Owners of liquor premises can assist the police by enhancing the security inside and outside their premises.
CCTV cameras on the inside and outside can assist with investigations.”
Arrests were also made for property and contact crimes such as possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, theft out of motor vehicles, burglary at residential and business premises, assault, domestic violence and robbery.
“Suspects will appear in different magistrate’s and community courts next week,” Weilbach said.
Tshwane district police commissioner Major General Daniel Mthombeni applauded the police and other law enforcement agencies for their dedication and hard work over the weekend.
Communities are urged to report any suspicious persons, vehicles or circumstances to the police immediately on 10111.
