Mamelodi West police have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the hammer murder of his ex-girlfriend.
“The suspect came to the police station the day after the body was found to report her as missing,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.
Police said the man confessed to the murder, following intensive interrogations.
The body of the woman, who was beaten to death with a hammer, was found at Mamelodi West cemetery the previous day on 18 June.
Following further investigations, police said they found a hammer at the suspect’s room believed to have been used as the murder weapon.
The man appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on 24 June.
He was remanded in custody until July 1.
