Brooklyn community members have been invited to meet and engage with the police provincial commissioner of Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said the engagement formed part of the police’s community-centred approach to policing for people residing or working in the Brooklyn policing precinct.
“It provides a platform for the SAPS’ leadership to listen to the community’s concerns and to receive input from the community on better strategies to fight crime successfully.”

She said provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela and his management were expected to meet with the community on Saturday, 6 July, at 08:30 till 13:00 at the Doxa Deo Church, 112 Anderson Street in Brooklyn.
“The CPF, ward councillors, community leaders, businesses, security companies, church leaders, youth and all law-abiding citizens who are committed to fight crime are welcome to attend the engagement.”
Brooklyn police station commander Brigadier Kushie Pietersen said that she and her station management were looking forward to this engagement.
She said that public confidence in the police was restored when the police worked closer with the communities they served.
Brooklyn CPF chairperson Andrew Fogwill encouraged the community to make use of the opportunity and of the platform that was created for them to engage with police management.
He said community policing was all about active citizenry and citizen participation in the fight against crime.
