UPDATE: North family gripped by fear, as dad shot six times recovers

The couple's two sons who are home for the school holidays helped to take care of their father during the day.

The father of two shot six times during a robbery at his Pretoria North home earlier this month is recovering at home though his family remains in fear.

Jan Schoeman was shot by two robbers in his Hesteapark, Pretoria North home on 5 June, who then fled with two television sets.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and only discharged on 17 June.

“It’s going good under the circumstances,” his wife, Lorna told Rekord.

“He is still in a lot of pain.”

Lorna said Jan’s stitches were removed last Thursday.

“He is still weak but is getting stronger and stronger each day.”

Previously, Lorna told Rekord she could not sleep after the incident.

“I don’t want to go into the kitchen either. I don’t want to be in my own home. I don’t know when the fear will get better,” Lorna said.

“I still get nightmares. But I feel better now that Jan has been discharged and is back home.

“We are so thankful for everyone’s prayers. There is a long road to recovery for us.”

The couple’s two sons who are home for the school holidays helped to take care of their father during the day.

Tshwane police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi confirmed the police were investigating a case of attempted murder.
