An early morning joint-venture between the CPF sectors of Pretoria North and Sinoville led to the discovery of stolen copper in a field.
Pretoria North sector 4 and sector 3 of Sinoville were patrolling on Friday, 28 June around 05:30, when one of the patrollers noticed something suspicious in the field in North Street.
“We saw something burning in the field and went to investigate. Upon arrival, we found the copper cables being stripped,” deputy chairman of the Pretoria North sector 4 CPF, Anton Niemann told Rekord.

Niemann said patrollers followed the trail in the field and found more cables and instruments used to steal and strip the cables.
The CPF contacted the Pretoria North police who reacted swiftly.
In total 201.2kg of cables, a number of spades and a pick were found hidden in the field.
“The value of the stolen cables was estimated to more than R16 000.”
The cables were estimated to be valued at about R1 500 per meter, brand new.
Most of the cable found in the field was suspected to have been stolen from Spoornet.

“Thank you to the Pretoria North police for their prompt response and assistance as well as to the (Tshwane) metro’s cable theft unit,” Niemann said.
Spokesperson for the Pretoria North police Captain Matthews Nkoadi confirmed the recovery of the stolen cables.
“No suspects have yet been arrested and a case of cable theft is being investigated,” Nkoadi said.
He urged those from who cables had been stolen to come forward with any information with could possibly assist the police.
