More than 350 people were arrested in law enforcement operations at the weekend.
“In Tshwane and Ekurhuleni, more than 350 suspects were arrested and 50 undocumented persons taken into custody,” police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said.
The arrests formed part of the Gauteng community safety department’s Operation O Kae Molao, aimed at curbing the scourge of crime.
Masondo said 30 suspects were arrested for drug-related cases, while 43 were arrested by detectives during a search for wanted suspects.

In other parts of the province, hundreds of other people were arrested for various crimes including murder, arson, possession of unlicensed firearms, theft and malicious damage to property, among other things.
“Fines issued in relation to administrative adjudication of road traffic offences amounted to R120 000,” he said.
Stolen motor vehicles and counterfeit goods and drugs also formed part of items recovered by police during the operations.
“Police management in the province have noted with appreciation the involvement of the community in the fight against crime, as most of the suspects were arrested through the tip-offs and information received from the members of the public.

“Operation O Kae Molao will continue in Gauteng to ensure that the community is and feel safe all the time,” Masondo said.
Those arrested were set to appear in court soon.
