Gate motor, security beams thieves targeting Wierdabrug homes

“Where possible, residents can make these devices more secure using a bracket or lock.”

Wierdabrug has seen a recent spate of electronic gate motor, security beam and generator thefts, police said.

“These thefts continue to be a headache in Centurion,” said police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.

Other areas affected include Doringkloof, Lyttelton, Hennopspark and the Centurion CBD.

Police are now trying to track the security beam and gate motor market and anyone who may be linked to the thefts.

They have called on the public to help them find the thieves.

“Anyone with more information on where the goods are taken or sold can contact police anonymously on 08600-10111,” said police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma.

Residents can also visit the nearest police station to report these crimes.

Homeowners in the area were urged to take steps to protect their property.

“Where possible, residents can make these devices more secure using a bracket or lock,” Huma said.

“This will delay the thieves and may even deter them from attempting the theft in the first place.”

A local private security company is also encouraging residents to have the special bracket fitted over the motor or beam.

“The bracket is bolted to the wall or floor and cannot be removed easily,” Monitor Net spokesperson JP le Roux said.

“The beam is so secure that criminals often do not even attempt to steal it if the bracket is fitted.”

Le Roux said all cases, even attempts to steal the devices, needed to be reported to the police.
