Call to respect rules at north dumping site

The Pretoria North garden refuse dumping site recently underwent a makeover.

The dumping site has received brand new skip bins which would make the removal of waste more manageable and easier.

Ward 2 resident Yolanda Duvenage said the upgrading of the Pretoria North garden refuse dump site was “as welcome spring rain”.

“Waste can be good and put to good use if residents co-operate,” Duvenage said.

“When we think of waste management, words such as rethink, refuse, reduce, re-use, recycle and responsible disposal come to mind. It is really the last one that is certainly applicable to our garden waste dump sites,” she said.

“The Tshwane metro has now basically revamped the site with new skips, easily transportable, an industrial shredder and a practical lay out that will make the site much more user-friendly and environmentally sustainable for the Pretoria North community.”

The garden waste would be reduced to compostable pieces that used less space and was far much easier to transfer.

“We call on the community to assist us in managing this site by dumping only garden waste and refrain from illegally dumping any household waste, soil or stones.

“We are proud of our new, greener and more sustainable garden waste site and the possibilities are endless if we get the co-operation of the public,” Duvenage said.
