NEWSFLASH: Armed robbers bomb east petrol station safe
When they couldn't open the safe, the robbers instead stole some cigarettes and took employees' cellphones.
Brooklyn police are searching for three armed men who used explosives to try and open a safe during a robbery at a petrol station in the east on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits said the robbery happened around 03:30 at a garage on Atterbury Road.
“Three armed men wearing balaclavas came into the store, with one carrying an assault rifle. The trio tried to open the safe with explosives, but failed,” she said.
“They then took cigarettes and cash from the till, which was around R2 000. Four cellphones belonging to the employees were taken.”

Brits said the drop safe was still intact after the robbery.
“No injuries were reported and a case of business robbery was opened.”
