Suspected hijacker arrested in west high-speed chase

Members of the flying squad were on a routine patrol in the area when they spotted an Isuzu bakkie reported hijacked earlier this month in Mamelodi.

A suspected hijacker was arrested following a high-speed chase in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria on Monday afternoon.

The arrest was made thanks to the members of the Tshwane Police Flying Squad.

“Members of the squad were on routine patrol in the area when a tracking device signaled them to the Isuzu bakkie which was reported hijacked earlier this month in Mamelodi,” said police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.

“They spotted the bakkie and a high-speed chase ensued.”

The bakkie was cornered in Nyiko Street and the suspect was immediately arrested, Moloto said.

A case of possession of a suspected hijacked vehicle was opened at Pretoria West police station. The suspect is set to appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court soon.
