VIDEO: More lights for the Moot
This time 10 lights were installed at the Pieter Human Park in Villieria.
Ten street lights were installed at the Pieter Human Park in Villieria in the Moot this week, said the operational coordinator of the East-Moot neighbourhood watch, Gideon van Deventer.
He said the lights were installed on Monday morning in cooperation with the Tshwane metro and other residents.
The lights were obtained thanks to donations and municipal workers helped with the installation.

Van Deventer said a resident in the area, Barend du Plessis, had decided to revitalise the neglected park almost a year ago.
“He replaced the water pump at the pond and often cleans the park up by himself,” he said.
Du Plessis collected money donations from other residents and installed the lights with the help of AfriForum’s East Moot neighbourhood watch and local ward councillor, Frans Smit.
Van Deventer said Citilec Electrical Wholesalers offered the lights at a decent price.
He said the installation of the lights was part of a bigger project by the neighbourhood watch.
“We are systematically installing lights and clearing bushes at all the local parks and streams,” he explained.
“All the dark spots create too many hiding places for criminals at night.”
This is the second set of lights that have been installed through this project in less than a month.
They previously installed lights at the stream on the corner of Cunningham and 31st avenues.

Van Deventer said the next area where lights will be installed has already been identified.
“We would like to install them at the highway bridge in Bosloerie Street,” he said.
“Pedestrians who walk under the bridge often get robbed.”
Smith said they already had lights at their disposal, but added that the necessary wiring had to be installed first.
Van Deventer said anyone can help and sponsor a light.
“Come lend a hand and take the next step with us!”
