VIDEO: West project feeds 600 people

The limousine project was held in Elandspoort last Saturday.

A project to help feed the less fortunate west of Pretoria was a success.

The limousine project was held in Elandspoort last Saturday, said Frik de Bruin, a member of the non-profit organisation, XseBlixem.

He said that the money raised by raffling tickets for a limousine ride to the Hartbeespoort in North West.

“This ride has taken place this past weekend,” he said.

De Bruin said they could raise enough funds to give 600 people soup.

“This soup, made by the various soup mothers in the area, will be distributed this coming Saturday,” he said.

He said 320 bowls of soup would go to two old-age homes, Van Rensburg and Louis Trichardt in Danville.

160 bowls will be donated to a rescue in Danville.

Eighty people in Proclamation Hill and 40 at the Wolmer old-age home will receive a bowl each.

“This is a huge task and we appreciate the big-hearted community that has jointly made this initiative possible,” he said.

The limousine project is the brainchild of Attie Fouché, who also has his own limousine business.

“XseBlixem had a petrol project a few months ago that was the same concept – buy petrol or diesel as a fundraiser,” he said.

“But this project didn’t do well. I knew I wanted to be involved in the community and that’s when I thought of the limousine idea.”

De Bruin said he was glad they were able to help others.

“Thank you to everyone who made this project possible,” he says.

XseBlixem has several similar projects in place to help the community.
