Police welcome life sentence for north child rapist
Quality investigations like these pave the way to successful convictions.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has welcomed the multiple long-term sentences imposed on child-rapist Mavhusha Livhuwani Vincent.
On Tuesday, 17 July the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court sentenced the 41-year-old to three life sentences, running concurrently.
The court also ordered the convict’s name be entered into the National Register of Sex Offenders.

Vincent was convicted on three of the nine counts of child rape reported to the police in Loate, north of Pretoria during his 2016 reign of terror targeting children between the ages of 9 and 12.
Mawela commended the Temba police’s family violence, child protection and sexual offences investigating unit for “removing another serial rapist from the street”.
“It is such quality investigation that paves the way for successful convictions and ultimately restore public confidence in the police,” he added.
He said this conviction underscored the police’s call for victims to break the trend of reporting but then withdrawing gender-based violence cases before they got to court.

Mawela urged rape victims to let the law take its full course and make perpetrators pay for their crimes.
