NEWSFLASH: ‘Robber’ shot dead in Olievenhoutbosch

“The alleged robber was shot dead by a member of public.”

Police are investigating a case of business robbery and murder after an alleged robber was shot and killed in Olievenhoutbosch on Thursday evening.

Five men, two of whom were armed, robbed a business in Assegaai Street at around 19:00, according to police spokesperson Constable Ulrika Liebenberg.

“The men demanded money and cellphones from the staff before fleeing the scene,” said Liebenberg.

“While fleeing a shooting between the men and unknown persons took place during which one person was fatally wounded.”

According to community medical service CERT-SA spokesperson Ruan Heyns, paramedics were called to the scene.

“An alleged robber was declared dead at the scene after he was shot by a member of the public,” said Heyns.

Police are appealing to the community to come forward with any information they may have regarding the incident.

Information can be reported anonymously to the police on 08600 10111 or a local police station.
