"I want us as South Africans to be part of a world record event."

The world record for the most lipstick applied to as many people as possible in an hour was broken during a adrenaline-fuelled morning at the Brooklyn mall at the weekend.

The new record was set when former Mrs South Africa 2012 and businesswoman Lynne de Jager applied lipstick to the 1 000th woman’s lips.

Organiser Gavin Prins said the previous record was 535 women in an hour.

“It was madness, but it was amazing,” he said.

Prins said De Jager broke the record in her first-ever attempt.

“The proceeds gained from people who participated in the challenge will go towards Operation Smile for corrective surgery for children born with cleft lips.

“A lot of people supported this initiative to make this a reality,” Prins said.

De Jager said: “My idea was to do something meaningful.

“I wanted us as South Africans to be part of a world record event.”

She said the real winners, however, were the children who would benefit from the proceeds and have their lives changed forever.

Speaking about the pressure of applying the lipstick to as many people as possible, she said: “As a makeup expert and owner of multiple businesses, I am used to working under pressure.”
