NEWSFLASH: Atteridgeville police promise more mob justice killing arrests

A mob allegedly tied up a young man, accused of stealing a car battery, before beating him with ‘sjamboks’ and pouring cold water over him.

Police in Atteridgeville promised there would be more arrests for the recent mob justice murder of a young man accused of stealing a car battery.

This after a 38-year-old man, believed to have been part of the mob which killed the young man, was arrested on Saturday.

The mob allegedly tied up the young man before beating him with sjamboks and pouring cold water over him, according to Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

“Mob justice is illegal and justice will run its course with more people being arrested soon,” Rikhotso said.

Atteridgeville police station commander Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu applauded the arrest.

“Such appalling acts of vigilantism will not be taken lightly,” said Nkhwashu.

“The perpetrators of such acts will be traced, arrested and face the full might of the law.”

Anyone with more info on the incident can contact Atteridgeville police on 012-373-2400.
