Donate a book and help a child in need
By donating even a single book you can help educate a child and promote reading to someone who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to escape to a different world.

Always wanted to help make a difference in your community and the lives of underprivileged children? Now you can. All you have to do is search through your home for any unwanted or unused books and donate them towards a worthy cause.
Rekord, in association with SPAR and the South African National Book Development Council (SANBDC), is launching the Donate a Book campaign, where bookworms from across the city (big and small) are encouraged to donate unused or unwanted books.

All collected books will be handed over to children in schools in Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.
The drive is inspired by National Books Week’s 10th anniversary this year. The initiative will see #readbecause trending on various social media platforms explaining why reading for pleasure is so important.
The #readbecause campaign was born out of the need for a collaborative approach towards growing the culture of reading for leisure in South Africa.

Get the family involved, go through your bookcase and do not forget about those boxes in the garage.
Any book suitable for high- and primary school learners is welcome. Books can be dropped off at your local SPAR – look out for the designated bins/trolleys.

Before donating your book, do not forget to write a personalised message for the child who will be receiving your book to make the experience that much more pleasurable. Just imagine the smile your message will evoke.
