Moot Oppitrack festival attracts 6 000 revellers

Massive crowds showed up at the inaugural Oppitrack family music festival at the Eduplex sports complex in Queenswood on Saturday.

The festival, which attracted nearly 6 000 people, had about 20 food stalls, entertainment area, a kiddies corner with jumping castles and much more.

Performances from Roan Ash, Riana Nel, Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels, Spoegwolf, Arno Carstens and other big SA artists blew concertgoers away throughout the day.

Eduplex head of sports Janus de Beer said the school was extremely happy and appreciative of the massive turnout.

He said the festival was held to raise money and bring the whole of the Moot area together.

“The purpose of the event was to raise money and to create an event for the whole family, not only a certain audience, but a fun day out for the whole family to enjoy and celebrate. It was a perfect opportunity for the whole community to come out and enjoy a day out,” he said.

“I believe this was a first not only for the Queenswood area but for the whole of the Moot. Future plans in this regards are for this to become a yearly festival here at Eduplex.”

The principal of the primary school and event coordinator of the Oppitrack music festival Jannie de Goede, thanked the school and the community’s contributions.

“Next year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than the inaugural festival and we plan on getting more big artists and getting the community involved yet again,” he said.
