The two Mamelodi boys reported missing on Saturday afternoon, have been found in the nearby river drowned.
Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said two bodies of boys were found by a rescue team, the Mamelodi and Boschskop police on Wednesday, without confirming their identities.
He said the identification was ongoing but Elizabeth Kwenaite, one of the boys’ mother, confirmed the discovery.
She said she last saw the boys around 15:00 on Saturday, playing and that she was heartbroken by the news.

She confirmed that the bodies belonged to the families’ beloved children Pontso Kwenaite (13) and Lungani Hobyane (13) of Pienaarspoort, in the far east of Mamelodi.
She described the boys as best friends. “Nothing could separate them.”
The local community and police immediately launched a search party after the boys’ families reported them missing at Mamelodi East police station.

Pontso was a grade 6 learner at Sediba sa Thuto Primary School, while Lungani was in grade 7 at N’wa-vhangani Primary School.
“The boys always played together and visited each other almost every day,” said Kwenaite.
Local ward councillor Morwangwato Matjane said the community was praying for the families to be strong at this time.
He said he was mobilising the ward executive team to start helping with the funeral and memorial service arrangements.
