UPDATE: North prison escapee case postponed for plea

The 34-year-old had appeared in court on a separate charge of rape on the day he escaped.

The rape accused man who escaped from police custody will return to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court next week to enter his plea.

The 34-year-old appeared in court last week limping when his case was postponed to allow him to obtain a legal representative.

He was remanded in police custody.

Rekord earlier reported that the man had escaped from police custody while being transported back to the Kgosi Mampuru prison where he was being kept.

He had earlier appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court.

He now faces an additional charge of rape for a case opened at the Rietgat police station.

Meanwhile, the court orderly that allegedly assisted his escape was this week released on R3 000 bail.

Samuel Mokoena is expected back in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on 7 November and the rape accused on 10 September 2019.
