South African Book Fair kicks off in Joburg

This year’s fair promises to be jam-packed with fun and enriching reading content.

The South African Book Fair has kicked off at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg. The event will be open until September 8.

Joburg East Express journalist, Busi Vilakazi caught up with multi-lingual storytelling activist and poet Dr Gcina Mhlophe to chat about the importance of reading.

She also had a chat with FunDza Crew about their reading promotion through an App.

Free performances will also take place in the National Book Week Magic Tent and toddlers to grandparents are welcome to join in a celebration.

Appearances will be by Funda Bala, the National Book Week reading mascot.

The Gruffalo will also be there and the multilingual reading of Julia Donaldson.
