UPDATE: Mother of 7-year-old Dros rape victim testifies

"No parent would want to witness what I witnessed."

The mother of the seven-year-old who was raped at a Dros restaurant said she was emotionally affected by the ordeal.

The woman was testifying at the Gauteng North High Court during the Nicolas Ninow trial on Wednesday.

Ninow is accused of raping the child at a Dros restaurant in Silverton last year.

He admitted to undressing the then seven-year-old victim, forcing his genitals into her mouth and penetrating her vagina with his finger then later attempting to flush her underwear.

The girl’s mother who testified through audio said she was scarred by the incident.

“No parent would want to witness what I witnessed,” the emotional mother said.

“I am emotionally affected.”

The woman said she arrived at the restaurant at around 14:30 on the day of the incident when she took her daughter and a boy to the kiddies area.

After a while, she went to enquire about her daughter’s whereabouts and she was told that she was in the toilet.

“I went to the toilet and she was not there,” she said.

“I called out her name and there was no response and I went to ask the childminder where my child was.”

She returned to the toilet where one of the cubicles was shut. With the help of restaurant staff, they pushed the door of the closed cubicle.

“As we pushed the door I called out my daughter’s name and she screamed back ‘mommy help me’,” she said.

When the door eventually opened she saw a naked Ninow with her daughter.

“I took my daughter out of the toilet,” she said.

” I realised there was blood on her skirt, I didn’t check where it was coming from, I assumed it was coming from her private parts.”

She said she ran back to the toilets and found Ninow had run to the men’s toilets where she found him wiping his genitals with the little girl’s underwear.

The distraught mother then witnessed Ninow flush the girl’s underwear.

The mother said she and the child had to undergo counselling and were seeking more treatment.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be fine, we will need to get more counselling,” she said.

The little girl also testified in camera. In order to protect the child, no members of the public or media were allowed.

The NPA said senior State Advocate Dorah Ngobeni would close the case on Thursday and would argue for the imposition of life imprisonment for Ninow.
