Tshepo Sello Mokwena (37), who quickly became known as the Hammanskraal serial rapist, was sentenced to life imprisonment on four counts of rape on Friday.
The sentencing was done at the Moretele magistrate’s Court after he was found guilty on Wednesday, said police spokesperson, Constable Herman Moremi.
Mokwena was facing eight counts of rape.

“Three charges were withdrawn by the victims while one of the victim died and her case was also withdrawn,” he said.
He attacked the woman near the bridge in Babelegi between 2006 and 2014.
“The victims were taking short cuts and walking alone when the suspect threatened them with a knife, assaulted them and raped them,” Moremi said.

Mokwena four life sentences each would run concurrently.
The station commander of Temba police station Brigadier Martha Mokobori applauded the investigating officer for a job well done.
“Since he took over the case, he managed to arrest the suspect and link him with all cases,” Mokobori said.

She encouraged the victims of rape to report cases and advised them not to withdraw such cases.
“This will assist the police to convict the perpetrators,” she said.
