NEWSFLASH: Shots fired in east cash-in-transit heist
About 16 suspects armed with rifles approached the van and fired several shots in the air.
Police are searching for a group of armed men after a cash-in-transit vehicle was robbed in Silvertondale on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said the robbery happened around 07:30 on the corner of Asetileen and Foundry streets.
“The driver of a cash van was transporting cash to Mayville when a white Nissan NP200 drove in front of the cash van. The driver of the Nissan bakkie got out and pointed the driver of the cash van with a pistol,” he said.

Naidoo said about 16 suspects armed with rifles approached the van and fired several shots in the air.
“The robbers threatened the guards that they were going to bomb them inside the van if they didn’t get out. When they exited the van, they were forced to lie on the ground while the robbers took one guard’s firearm.”
Bags of money were taken out of the van before the robbers fled the scene in a white BMW, white Volkswagen Caddy, and a silver Audi A4.
“The Nissan bakkie caught fire after it hit the pavement. It was established through the VIN number that the Nissan NP200 was stolen in Olievenhoutbosch in August 2019,” Naidoo said.
