“Ensure all doors are securely locked before you step away from your vehicle.”
He said criminals used jamming devices to block the vehicle remote signal to prevent them from successfully locking the vehicle and arming the alarm.
“Ensure the vehicles’ locking mechanism is activated by attempting to open a door before walking away.”
He advised motorists to make use of shopping centres that had proper access control, security guards and anti-jamming warning systems to warn the public when jamming of their remotes took place, as this would reduce the risk of vehicles being stolen or broken into.
“Members will police the area and take both preventative as well as reactive measures to help prevent and reduce crime,” he said.
“This, however, calls for a joint effort by both the police and our community.”
