Two people were arrested for allegedly being in the possession of unlicensed firearms in the west this week.

The latest one was an 18-year-old who was arrested on Monday.

“He was arrested after he was found trespassing at Phelindaba High School,” said police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

“Two constables from Atteridgeville police responded to a call of trespassing by the principal.”

Rikhotso said upon closer inspection, it was discovered that the suspect was hiding a firearm in his pants.

He was then arrested for being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

In an unrelated incident, a second man was arrested, also for being in the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The intervention team of the Atteridgeville police noticed a suspicious man walking around Ntsu Street, whom they then followed,” Rikhotso said.

She said the man was found with a firearm and ammunition.

Atteridgeville station commander Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu said the police would continue to ensure that criminals felt the might of the law in the community.

Nkhwashu also applauded the good work of the officers and the contribution of the community towards a safer Atteridgeville.
