Four men have been arrested in connection with the attempted murder and robbery of cyclist Wayne McDuling on Thursday.
The incident took place around 05:30 on De Villebois Mareuil Drive near the Moreleta Park NG Kerk.
Wayne McDuling (55) was on his way to meet his cycling partners when four men attacked him and stole his bicycle.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Nel said McDuling was stabbed with a knife, leaving him with several injuries.
A joint operation between private securities Bull and Brinant as well as the local CPF was launched at the Plastic View informal settlement after the attack.
“The operation was a huge success,” Nel said.
“They manage to trace and arrest 4 suspects as well as recover the stolen bicycle which is worth a few thousand rand.”
McDuling was admitted to the Pretoria East hospital’s high care unit where he was found to have been stabbed six times.

His son Tyrone said his father was recovering well and would be discharged soon.
“The doctor said they missed a vital artery which would have bled out by the time we got there,” he said.
“We are grateful that he is alive.”
Nel advised people to cycle in groups as this reduced the chance of getting robbed.
He said they should avoid cycling after dark as criminals tended to be more active then.
“Ensure your family, loved ones or friends always know where you are going, which route you are following and at what time more or less they can expect you home,” he said.
“Install an emergency app on your phone which will notify people you are in need of emergency help with the push of a button, as well as indicate where you are located.”
Acting Station Commander, Lt. Colonel Philemon Sethosa of Garsfontein police congratulated all the role players for the excellent work and on their success in making the arrests.
“This clearly shows when we join our efforts and work together our chance of success increases significantly and definitely make a huge impact.”
The four suspects remain in custody and will appear in court soon.
