A woman escaped unharmed when a rock was thrown through her windscreen from an overhead train bridge as she drove along the N4 highway earlier this week.
“I don’t know why but I decided to change from the left lane to the right lane on Thursday evening when I drove back to Bronkhorstspruit from the Meyerspark area,” motorist Emmarie Theunissen said.
She said shortly after changing lanes she heard a sound which gave her a fright and shortly afterwards she saw a hole in her windscreen.
This as a rock was thrown through her car’s windscreen and landed on her handbrake.
“It was only when I stopped at the tollgate and I switched on my car’s [cabin] light that I saw the rock on my handbrake,” she said.
Local ward councillor Mike Strange said the rock was thrown from the train bridge on the N4 highway.
“There hasn’t been any such incidents for a long time,” he said.
It was understood the rock was thrown after the Donkerhoek tollgate.
“There are multiple vehicles, up to four, which have reported rock throwing on the same evening,” said Strange.
Strange noted it was the same stretch of road where obstacles were sometimes strewn onto the road.
