Fines worth thousands issued at north roadblock

Fines worth thousands were issued during a road block in the north of Pretoria this week.

The road block, which was held on the R573 Moloto Road, was part of a multi-faceted crime prevention operation led by the police on Friday, said police spokesperson Sergeant Sam Shibambo.

“The roadblock was executed early in the morning, and its primary focus was to address crimes such as illegal firearms, drugs, road traffic act violations and possession of stolen goods, among other things,” he said.

Shibambo said 530 vehicles were pulled over and 2 743 people were searched.

He said 34 Aarto fines with a value of R21 000 were issued to motorists for road traffic offences.
