The SA air force has donated several computers to a Mamelodi school.
Learners at Ribane Laka Secondary School were encouraged to work hard because the country depended on them.
These were the words of the chief of the SA air force Lieutenant-General Zimpande Msimang as he made the donation of 20 computers to the school on Wednesday.
The school laboratory was found to be in a state of disrepair, posing a challenge to the learners and being a disadvantage to their development.
It was for this reason “and in the spirit of ubuntu that the SAAF took a decision to donate the computers in an effort to ease the IT challenges experienced at the school”.
Msimang was accompanied by a delegation comprising members of the command council of the SA air force, various members of the defence industry, including a delegation from Africa aerospace and defence expo to hand over the computers.
Msimang spoke to learners who wanted to join the SANDF.

“Don’t let what you are going to get today, go to waste,” Msimang said adding “For learners are born in the fourth industrial revolution these computers will normalise everything for them when they get to tertiary level.”
He said that the learners were the future leaders of this country and the country needed them.
“It is the responsibility of the community and learners to take care of this equipment.”
Tshwane south district director Hilda Kekana said the school has been doing well and made Tshwane south proud for many years.
She said the equipment would come in handy and help the school excel as education was a powerful tool to change the world.

Grade 12 learner Shiburu Maria said she was happy that the air force chose her school.
She said learners would strive to produce good results in the 2019 matric results and for many years to come.
School principal Martha Ngoma said she was happy with the generous donation and said the equipment would be put to good use.
She pleaded with the community, learners and parents to look after the equipment.
Ngoma promised the school would continue to produce 100 percent pass rate in matric.
“Throughout the school term, teachers and learners were disciplined and it is all thanks to the intervention programme at the school which started at the beginning of the year.”
In a parting gesture Msimang donated his personal laptop to Ngoma.
