NEWSFLASH: Centurion fire leaves 70 homeless

Over 70 people were left homeless after a fire swept through 27 shacks in the Mooiplaas informal settlement in Centurion on Monday morning.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said no injuries were reported.
“Our fight fighters, with the disaster management and TMPD, helped to put out the fire. Unfortunately, over 27 shacks were burned down and 70 people have been displaced,” he said.

“Our disaster management officials are still on scene coordinating relief efforts.”
Ward 48 councillor Kingsley Wakelin said he was thankful that no-one was injured.
“We have arranged for blankets, mattresses, food as well as social services to respond to the affected families.”
He said the fire may have been caused by an accident involving a paraffin stove.
