NEWSFLASH: North woman’s toe allegedly shot off in robbery

“The couple were overpowered, assaulted and detained [by the robbers].”

A woman (73) was on Wednesday morning shot in the foot as she escaped from robbers in Kromdraai in the Apies River.

On 23 October the woman and her husband had a rude awakening when three robbers entered the house around 03:00.

“The couple were overpowered, assaulted and detained [by the robbers],” Juan du Plessis from GAC Risk Solutions said.

Three attackers allegedly gained access to the couple’s home and demanded valuables while they held them up.

The woman’s toe was allegedly shot off as she escaped.

When the police, security firms CPF and GAC Risk Security and the AfriForum neighbourhood watch arrived at the house, the robbers escaped.

Du Plessis said GAC Risk Security, CPF and AfriForum neighbourhood watch discovered some of the items taken during the robbery when they searched area for the robbers.

“A laptop and cellphones were found a few kilometers from the couple’s house. We also found burglary equipment,” Du Plessis said.

No arrest has yet been made.
