NEWSFLASH: Tshwane in deep water crisis
Areas such as Laudium, Waterkloof Height, Erasmuskloof and Constantia Park are without water due to empty reservoirs.
The water situation in Pretoria has reached crisis level with some areas being without water due to empty reservoirs.
Rand Water on Thursday implemented restrictions to all meters which will see among other things, the reduction of water pressure across Tshwane.
The percentage reduction of water was between 40 and 50 percent as Rand Water’s reservoirs were still below 20%.
Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa said Rand Water system was still critical and not showing any signs of improvement.
He said the City of Tshwane system was affected and reservoir outflows have been restricted by up to 60%.
“The current heat wave in Gauteng has contributed to much faster depletion than anticipated. This means resevoirs are running dry across the City,” he said.

“Most reservoirs maintain above 50% level and are monitored closely.”
The following areas have no water:
Atteridgeville, Laudium, Claudius, Erasmia, Waterkloof Heights, Erasmuskloof and Constantia Park.
Water tankers have been deployed to the areas as follows:
Atteridgeville: 20 tankers
Laudium/Claidius/Erasmia: 8 tankers
Constantia Park: 6 tankers
Waterkloof Heights/Erasmuskloof: 4 tankers

Mokgalapa said Water tankers are roaming and managed by the region in consultation with bulk water and ward councillors.
The following reservoirs battle under extremely low levels resulting in low pressures & no water:
Atteridgeville, Constantia Park, Laudium, Heights Reservoir.
He said the city was in communication with Rand Water and Ministry of Water and Sanitation.
“I’m informed that Minister Lindiwe Sisulu is scheduled to host a press conference on Monday, 28th October 2019 to communicate emergency measures in place.”
In the meantime, the City is setting up Emergency Operations Centres which are yet to be announced and has started shutting down city irrigation.
“I urge residents to use water only for sustenance and no other purpose – NO watering of gardens, washing cars, cleaning driveways, etc. Remember to drink water and give your pets and animals drinking water to avoid any cases of dehydration in the scortching heat,” he said.
“I apologise for the inconvenience caused; I appeal to residents to cooperate with the City is managing this mishap.”
