A group of suspected robbers shot at security personnel who were responding to an emergency call in Erasmuskloof on Saturday morning.
Bull security spokesperson French Jooste said at around 03:00 they received an alarm activation from a fence alarm at a complex in the area.
“Our reaction units responded and upon arrival, our officer immediately started checking the fence for any forced access,” Jooste said.
“The officers entered the big veld behind the complex linked to Wolwespruit.”

Within a few minutes of searching Jooste said the suspects started shooting at the officers.
“It was very difficult to determine exactly where the gunshots were coming from as this veld is extremely dark with very low visibility,” he said.
He said the officers started chasing the suspects through the veld but due to low visibility the suspects managed to get away.
“We had vehicles everywhere to assist looking for this suspects,” he said.
“At this stage it is not clear exactly how many suspects were involved.”
He said the security company’s tactical unit was on high alert in the area.
“I want to warn the public these suspects are armed and very dangerous. If you see or hear anything suspicious, please contact us immediately.”
