Two men were caught red-handed stealing cables in Atteridgeville, following a tip-off from the public over the weekend.
They were busy loading the cables into a Toyota Quantum mini-bus in Phomolong informal settlement when police pounced and managed to arrest them, said Atteridgeville spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.
An unspecified number of accomplices, however, managed to flee the scene.

Atteridgeville police station commander Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu said that the partnership between police and the community was key in ensuring that criminals have no place to hide.
“The constant communication between the two entities will build a working relationship that will squeeze crime out of the community,” he said.
Police are still searching for the suspects that avoided arrest.
