More than 200 people were arrested this week following several police operations in the Tshwane west policing district.
“Especially as we approach the festive season, police visibility is paramount at all shopping centres, streets, businesses and financial institutions,” police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said.
“Which is why we undertook these operations.”
The operations were a part of operation O Kae Molao, which was undertaken to ensure police visibility and to deter all forms of criminal activities, Zwane said.

He said it started on Friday with a roadblock on the R55 in Olievenhoutbosch manned by police and Tshwane metro police officers.
“The aim of this road block was to ensure vehicles are road worthy and that they do not transport any unlawful substances,” he said.
“Motorists were also warned to always be sober when they’re behind the wheel as that would drastically reduce the number of accidents and fatalities on the roads.”
He said during the roadblock arrests were made and fines were issued.

“Two people were arrested for being in the possession of drugs,” he said.
“Another two suspects were detained for being in possession of suspected stolen vehicles.”
He said 334 vehicles and 1 184 people were searched for drugs, unlicensed firearms and dangerous weapons.
“Two vehicles were impounded as they were not road worthy as prescribed by Aarto and 23 traffic fines were issued to the value of R15 000,” he said.

In a separate incident on Friday in Wierdabrug, a driver was arrested for driving under the influence of liquor and charged with drunken driving, Zwane said.
He said in another incident in Wierdabrug, five people were arrested on Tuesday afternoon after robbing a fruit and vegetable store.
All the stolen money and items were recovered.
“Other suspects were arrested for various offenses which included, house breaking and theft, assaults, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, suspected stolen properties, traffic offences, rape and armed robberies,” he said.

All people detained will appear before Atteridgeville and Pretoria magistrate courts on Monday.
