The man suspected of murdering his three-year-old son has pleaded guilty in the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
Police spokesperson Constable Mandla Zwane confirmed that Thabang Ngobeni had pleaded guilty during his appearance on Monday.
“He will be appearing in court again on 11 November, to sign his confession statement in order for him to be sentenced.”
Ngobeni, a resident of the Bremer Street informal settlement, allegedly took his son Mohau to a field nearby on 31 October, where he physically assaulted and stabbed him in the torso multiple times with a screwdriver.

Rekord previously reported that the family alerted police after Ngobeni said he was taking his son to the veld to kill him.
Family and co-workers had noticed that Ngobeni was acting erratically over the last few weeks and said that he had gone for psychological observation prior to the murder.
The Ngobeni family had been living in the settlement since before Mohau was born.
The family also fell victim to the fire that swept through the settlement on 21 October, which destroyed much of what they owned.
