No access to north school as another entrance blocked
Both entrances to Amandasig Secondary School have been blocked off, leading to a possible disruption of exams.

Both entrances to Amandasig Secondary School have been blocked off, leading to a possible disruption of exams.
Last week, it was reported the main gate had been welded shut but on arrival at the school on Monday, authorities found a trench had been dug up across the other entrance, making it impossible to enter the school premises.
“Good morning team. Gate A is welded shut and there is construction/trenches at Gate B from Friday afternoon. There is no access to the school. Please advise. Exams are going to be disrupted,” Amandasig Secondary School SGB deputy chairman Clement Menyuko said in a WhatsApp message.

“Parents are dropping off the learners at the main road R513. It is chaotic but as long as the learners are safe.
“The SGB, Learner Reps and teachers all agreed this morning, to remove the welding after the learners finish writing their papers. No one is going to stop us from doing that. We will defend ourselves if we are attacked by anyone.”

Menyuko said the welding of the gate shut last week was not the first incident.
“The gate has been chained twice before and we had to make use of a bolt cutter to open it.”
Menyuko said this week’s incident, was “premeditated as the gate was welded closed on 20 different places”.
“We are here for the interest of the children, not politics. We need the government to come on board and intervene and tell us which gate to use.
“They must tell us and put it in writing,” Menyuko said.
Police spokesperson Captain Van Aarde confirmed a case of malicious damage to property was being investigated.
