Two nabbed for Moot business robbery

“Our police officers were on their regular patrols in Steve Biko Road, close to Booysen Street, when they noticed two men running out of a shop.”

Two people were arrested following an armed robbery in the Moot on Wednesday morning.

The robbery happened at a shop in Steve Biko Road around 9:45, said Pretoria Moot police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt.

“Our police officers were on their regular patrols in Steve Biko Road, close to Booysen Street, when they noticed two men running out of a shop,” he said.

“This was suspicious for our officers and they pursued the men.”

Breedt said a chase ensued between the alleged robbers and the police.

“The police managed to push the vehicle off the road on the corner of Meyer Street and 9th Avenue,” he said.

He said the driver of the vehicle was arrested while two other suspects in the vehicle fled on foot.

“A second suspect was found hiding in the stream area by the police,” he said.

“Upon being searched, police found a pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition.”

Breedt said the third suspect was still at large and asked for anyone with more information to come forward.

He said cases of business robbery and the possession of a firearm and live ammunition was opened.

“They remain in custody and will appear before the magistrates’ court soon.”
