More than 400 arrested over the weekend in Tshwane
Major police operations were held across the Tshwane district this weekend, enabling police to arrest more than 400 suspected criminals.

Captain Colette Weilbach of Brooklyn police station was able to confirm that all those arrested will appear in court for various offences that were committed between 15 and 17 November.
“This after all our stations were leading several successful operations all over the city to prevent and fight crime successfully,” said Weilbach.
Arrests were made for the following unlawful activities:
- On the N1 at Walmansdal a suspect was arrested for the contravention of the Medical Act. This after he was found with a large quantity of anti-viral tablets without an explanation or prescription.
- On the R80 near Soshanguve 13 undocumented persons were arrested.
- In Sunnyside, Pretoria Central and Akasia more than 40 persons were arrested for liquor related offences such as drinking in public or being drunk in public.
- To reduce road fatalities, motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
- A number of suspects were also arrested for drug related offences.
- Two unlicensed liquor outlets were closed at a dilapidated building, known as Beersheba, in Pretoria Moot.
- In Rietgat and Kameeldrift, several shebeens were closed that were operating illegaly. Liquor was confiscated from these premises.
- In Sunnyside and Akasia persons were arrested for noncompliance with the Liquor Act.
- Wanted suspects were arrested for offences such as possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles, theft out of motor vehicles, burglary at residential and business premises, assault, house robbery and armed robbery amongst others.
- In Hercules two vehicles were recovered and two suspects were arrested. One of the vehicles is linked to a Hammanskraal hijacking case and the other was reported stolen.

“Awareness campaigns also formed part of the weekend’s police activities,” Weilbach continued. “Stokvel members were advised to make use of e-banking to prevent theft and robberies. Pedestrians were cautioned not to use their cell phones in public and to keep their valuables safe. To prevent vehicle related crimes, motorists were advised to remove valuables from their parked vehicles and to make use of secured parking spaces.”
The arrested suspects will appear in different Magistrate’s and Community Courts next week on their respective charges.
“Major General Daniel Mthombeni, Tshwane District Commissioner, applauded the dedicated efforts of police and other law enforcement agencies this weekend,” said Weilbach. “He said these consistent police operations and intensified police visibility will continue throughout the festive season.”
Communities are urged to play their role by reporting any suspicious persons, vehicles or circumstances to the police immediately by phoning the 10111 emergency-number. Information with regards to crime can be given to the police anonymously by phoning 08600 10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211. Callers may remain anonymous and all information will be treated with strictest confidentiality.
