Tips for using 10111 number
Public urged to use but not abuse the emergency number.
Police offered some handy tips for using the 10111 emergency number this week.
In a press statement, police asked the public to use, but not abuse the number as “a high volume of calls is received at the centre”.
The tips below are aimed at helping with making effective calls to “help save time and lives”.
– Call when you are in danger, witness a crime, when your life or that of someone else is in danger and when you see something suspicious or someone possibly committing a crime or an offence.
– Try to be calm, speak clearly and slowly for the telephone operator.

– Give the call operator your contact number, full address where the incident is happening and the type of incident it is. If possible, provide a description of the nearest landmarks such as post office, shops, clinic, etc.
– Get a reference number to know that your complaint is registered. For any follow-ups, you don’t need to register a new complaint but rather give the reference number so that you can be assisted immediately.
– Everyone is encouraged to know the number for their local sector police station. This number is written on the side of sector vehicles patrolling in his or her area. The number will help to get police assistance immediately if you cannot get through to 10111.
