One injured in north CIT robbery

The incident happened around 10:00 on the N1 highway past Hammanskraal.

A resident of Pretoria shared a dramatic experience as a cash in transit robbery took place right in front of her.

The incident happened around 10:00 on the N1 highway past Hammanskraal, said resident Natalie Sadler.

“We were driving on the highway when a BMW sped past us,” she said.

“Suddenly all the vehicles stopped abruptly and the BMW went over to the other side of the highway because there isn’t a barrier separating the two directions.”

Sadler said she saw three men with weapons get out of the BMW and approach an SBV security company vehicle.

“They also stopped the traffic in that direction,” she said.

“Then, there was an explosion before they fled from the scene.”

She said an employee of SBV lost his thumb in the explosion.

“Other people on the scene also sustained minor injuries,” she said.

SBV South Africa confirmed the incident on Twitter.

“We are aware of a CIT robbery on the N1 North of Pretoria and are investigating,” they said in a tweet.

Police had not commented at the time of going to press.

Shortly afterwards there was a second cash in transit heist in Pretoria West.

Several authorities confirmed the incident but more information is awaited from the police.
